Peer Support Groups

Bringing people together
86% of people with a disability have great attendance.

When compared to non-disabled co-workers, the majority of those with a disability had similar or better attendance.

As part of the services and supports we offer, ILRC is available as a meeting space for a number of groups on a regular basis. Along with these meetings, we also host workshops and events when possible.

The following is a list of Peer Support groups who currently meet regularly at the ILRC.  Please note that, in addition to these, we occasionally hold additional workshops and events as opportunities arise. As well, we are open to starting new regular groups as the Peer Support Program expands.

Paint Group

Meet with us on Thursday afternoons from 2 to 4 pm. Please contact the ILRC to find out the location. Share your skills and work with us on a project. Help us show that art can be created and shared across disabilities.

Dinner Club

Looking for a great evening of food and conversation? Join us at a different restaurant every two months from 6:30 to 9:00 pm. Please share and learn with us. We often discuss the accessibility of the restaurant during this event.

Women’s Group

Women with disabilities get together to share stories and information. We meet every month at the Independent Living Resource Centre or in the community. Women share ideas, give a workshop, or talk about an interest or concern.

Men’s Group

Join other men with disabilities as we share stories and information. Every month we meet at the ILRC or in the community to give workshops, share ideas, or talk about an interest or concern.

Young Adult Group

Young adults between the ages of 18 – 35 come together once a month at the ILRC or in the community to share ideas and support each other.

Peer Group – Men & Women

Men and women with disabilities get together to share stories and information. We meet every month at the Independent Living Resource Centre or in the community.

Debbie Prim Memorial Courtyard and Garden

The Garden, created by people living with disabilities and in the spirit of accessibility, has an accessible pathway, a wheelchair swing, and several accessible flower beds.   Want to be involved? Our Garden Committee meets monthly and there’s always a weed that needs plucking or a plant that needs watering. Come to learn, share your knowledge, or simply stop by to smell the flowers.
